Reiki is a Japanese method of spiritual healing that deals with the “Universal Life Energy”, which is really just the energy that surrounds us and makes our mere being possible. Many people even practice Reiki without realizing that they have the ability. (T’is the season to make a Star Wars joke, it’s a hell of a lot like the Force!) The typical session consists of palm healing, where the practitioner transfers energy through their palms. Practitioners are trained in the chakra systems and master how to create a better flow of energy throughout them. They are by no means, THE healer, but the vessel for the healing energies.
Reiki was developed sometime in the late 1800s by Mikao Usui, who founded many Christian boy’s schools, fascinated with the idea of Jesus’ healing abilities. He traveled for many years searching for the key to the puzzle and studying many religions (most likely learning about chakras in India) and when he hit finally hit a wall, declared that he was to meditate on top of a mountain until he reached spiritual clarity. He had visions of light, showing him energy spots on the body and what to do with them to heal them. What he learned is what we now know as Reiki.
Every single person will have a different experience with Reiki practices. Even practitioners feel energy differently. My practitioner is one of my very close friends and family members. She even experiences performing her practice differently than others. She can see a distinction between which hand absorbs and which hand transfers energy throughout her patient’s body. All receivers of Reiki experience different things as well. Sometimes you can experience a sudden burst of laughter even though you feel deeply relaxed (this happened to me yesterday, it was startling!), sometimes you may feel the need to just fall into a little cat nap, and your body’s temperature can even noticeably fluctuate (I can almost always feel my temperature rising in the targeted areas of my body she feels a strong pull to during our sessions.)
Reiki is by no means the answer to all things, but it is (from experience) quite a healing experience mentally and emotionally (and even physically). Look to Reiki if you feel as though you would like to be more emotionally and physically balanced, or if you just want to be set back on track. It’s an experience that I recommend all of my lovely babes have at least once.
Happy healing, babes!
