the babe coven story

A crisp October wind blew through the bare tree branches of the Old Hadley cemetery on the night that Babe Coven was formed. Co-founders Haleigh Schiafo and Corinne Dodenhoff had just spent the evening wandering the crumbling gravestones searching for the grave of Mary Webster, the notable witch from the famous Margaret Atwood poem "Half-Hanged Mary" who survived failed attempts made on her life in the 1680's. Schiafo and Dodenhoff had already been close friends when they made this pilgrimage. However, standing among the spirits in the old puritanical town, they realized how much stronger their innate magical powers were when they joined forces. It was on this trip that Babe Coven was born.

Initially started as a clothing company and blog, Babe Coven has since grown organically into an entirely different being altogether. Part digital community, part event production company, part darkling brand, Babe Coven has become a destination for witches and weirdos the world over. Heavily femme-centric and supremely queer, the brand provides an online space for learning, inspiration, and empowerment. As with all witchcraft, it centers upon the ideas that those who have been cast aside by society are valid and magical. Through a series of events such as curated markets and burlesque shows geared specifically towards women, femmes, and gender non-binary folks, Babe Coven seeks to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.
